Afternoon Tea does not have to have a huge price tag to match the extravagance of it all, you simply just need to know where to look! 😉
What Is Afternoon Tea?
I am offended that you even ask such a question? ….. No seriously, let me begin by telling those of you who have no idea what it is (who are you monsters?!) 😛
Afternoon Tea is a tea-related ritual, introduced in Britain in the early 1840s. A quintessentially British “meal” composed of sandwiches (usually cut delicately into fingers), scones with clotted cream and jam, sweet pastries and cake all washed down with a pot of Tea!
Celebrating my birthday in true British style my fabulous friend treated me to Afternoon Tea at the Mashrabiya Lounge at Fairmont The Palm Dubai & it was nothing short of amazing!
They boast –
One of its highlights is the award-winning ‘Afternoon Tea’ that offers dainty finger sandwiches, delicate scones with luxurious clotted cream and a selection of bite sized desserts.
With a wide tea variety from Japan, Sri Lanka and China, health advocates can enjoy a reviving experience when choosing their favourite tea flavour to enjoy. With a creative pastry team, the Afternoon Tea at Mashrabiya Lounge offers decadent treats and sandwiches to the food enthusiasts in the vibrant city of Dubai.
Their description did not mislead! We were greeted by the very attentive staff who sat us on the terrace with a gorgeous view of the Palm. They then gave us a rundown of what was to come! They brought us parts of the afternoon tea in batches, …. First warm, freshly baked & filled pastries, three different varieties filled with chicken, vegetables & salmon. Then came the tea, a vast array of fruity and herb infused freshly brewed teas to choose from….. but we chose English Breakfast Tea (of course).
Once we were served the tea, the goodies came! Sweet and savory treats were presented on a high tier tray we were spoiled for choice! But began with the savory bites first!
- English cucumber and mint cream cheese on soft white bread.
- Smoked salmon and dill on rye bread.
- Duck and foie gras and morello cheery on walnut bread (Foie gras is a luxury food product made of the liver of a duck or goose that has been specially fattened…..not my cuppa tea!)
- Chicken salad and green apple on whole wheat.
- Roast beef with horseradish cream on whole grain bread.
- Truffled egg salad on mini brioche
Then the desserts
- Traditional triamisu
- Lemon meringue tart
- Paris brest
- Chocolate eclair
- Date cake with caramel
- Raspberry macaroon
After stuffing our faces and re
filling our teapots, we were then reminded we still had scones to come (My favorite!) The warm traditional plain and date scones are served with Devonshire clotted cream and a selection of luxury confiture (jam)
Well and truly stuffed, The Groupon deal is definitely one to grab while you still can! With the five-star service, five-star setting, The Fairmont hostesses were exceptional in making us feel relaxed. For the extensive range of cakes, tarts, scones and tea offered, and not to mention the amazing view of the gulf, I would say it was well worth it!
For a tea connoisseur such as myself, If you know me, you’ll know, I’m a typical Brit & I loves me a cuppa & a nice sit down, you can see how much so HERE. This definitely met my approval!
There are plenty of offers on around town at the moment for Afternoon Tea, but I highly recommend this place for the service alone! The tea is exceptional and the price is even more so! Afternoon tea is also a treat to have at home if you have the right tools & nibbles!
Do you go for afternoon tea? Where are your favorite places? Or maybe you do it at home? If so let me know in the comments below & don’t forget to share!
