You don’t need to be a blogging genius to see how people are ranking so high with their blog posts in search engines. It’s a simple formula which, once implemented with your own posts, will have you continuing to spin out highly searchable, high ranking articles from here on in! – here’s the secret:

First things first –

You’ll want to pick a popular topic that a lot of people are generally searching for, kind of a no brainer right? How to do that you’re wondering? Well Mr Google tells us everything in he’s little online tool – Google Trends This is an easy way for coming up with your own traffic-boosting ideas, using Trends is pretty self explanatory, you’ll wonder why you never thought of this sooner!

So for instance, if we have a recipe post in mind, search what recipe terms are being searched the most & use them! It even gives you post titles because the public are searching for it! Like washing leeks…. in search you might find “The best ways to wash leeks” – boom! Post title and highly ranking searchable post!

And then you could even add to it “The best ways to wash leeks (+How to keep them fresh longer)” So not only are you using highly ranking search terms …. also giving them answers to their search queries 😉

Where to start –

If you’ve already got a post subject in mind, or you really have no clue & are looking for some inspo, you can go to Google Trends to get some ideas. They have a nifty generator that allows you to search a topic and it will populate related topics & searches. Here is an example search I did for Chicken –

So now I can click any of these topics that I’m interested in to get more specific details about what people are searching for. I can already think of some good blog post ideas using this because the search terms have helped me understand what is mostly put into search by people around the globe!

What is something people want to know that they’re mostly searching for?

What questions do they write in search to find answers to?

For example, one of the popular ‘Related Topics’ for the photo above is Chicken Fricasse. If I click on this, I can see more ideas about it, and I’ve already generated some specific, quick win post ideas!

Some of the popular searches are:

  • Fricasse de frango
  • Fricasse Parmigianna

Not only do I now have post ideas, I have exact headline and keyword ideas that are proven – because they’re exactly what someone who wants this information is typing into Google.

You’re looking for something straight forward, like these ideas above, that you can provide a great answer to. This works so well because these posts can be quite short and easy to write, meaning they’re easier for the reader to digest and less time consuming for you!

How can I use their EXACT search vocabulary to get my post seen?
  • Begin by editing your post with the Yoast plugin. Always make sure to name the post after the ACTUAL search term you’re looking at – plus use that also in the focus keyword and post link. This is a really important part for ranking & attracting the right attention- use the exact vocab people are searching for.
Continuing with our chicken example, the post about Chicken Fricasse could be called exactly that: “Chicken Fricasse Recipe. You’re copying down their exact search term – what they’re looking for! Give them what they want and make it easy for them to find it!
The goal here is to create something that people are actively looking for in search.
How can I make my post stand out from the rest?

There can be a lot of competition on Google, you want to make your post stand out. You want to add some appealing words so that people stop and click!

You can do this for your post in a number of ways:

  • Give the reader some additional value – Create The BEST Chicken Fricasse Recipe the easy way!
  • Curiosity will get the better of them! Give a catchy title like – How to produce crowd pleasing Chicken Fricasse Recipe with little to NO cooking skills.

Just make sure you keep to your keywords strong by not making these extra statements as important. You want the main message “Chicken Fricasse Recipe” to stand out. That should be the post title, permalink, and focus keyword.

Image alt text – Important!!

Thanks for the information. I’ve heard many times about Google Trend but I just haven’t tried it yet. I’m using blogspot, anyway. Will this work with that too?
