The key is to produce content that is not only popular, but valuable to your audience! How can I do this you’re asking? It’s quite simple! BuzzSumo – is a really handy tool that helps you see what is working well for the more popular blogs! That simply means writing their URL into the search, or even a subject/topic of your choice, this pulls up all the info easily for you to see exactly which posts have been the most successful.
Using this information, you can get an idea of a few things –
- You will know which topics the website audience wants to read about.
- If you’ve searched for the right thing, these are the topics people in your niche will probably want to read about too.
- You can see what you can cover more thoroughly to make your content even more valuable than what is already out there!
Here I’ve simply written a topic “money saving tips” & I can see that (Smart DIY Home Cleaning Tips & Hacks) Is performing well,
Buzzsumo is free! Although there is a Pro version, there really isn’t much need for it, with the free version, you can search up to a maximum of 10 times per day. That’s enough in my book, just make your searches really count so you don’t use them all up without grabbing the info you need!
Analyze What’s Trending
The great thing about BuzzSumo is you can see whats popular or trending in your niche, for instance, if you’re seeing lots of posts beginning with the headlines “How To….” or “7 Ways To…” & so on, you can be pretty sure these post headlines will work in your favour as you can see that’s what people are interested in reading at the moment!
This is an essential feature to look at if you’re considering writing a new post. If an article isn’t being shared long after it’s written, you won’t want to write something like it, you’ll want to go one better! If your blog has ‘evergreen content’ it means it is being shared WELL after the publish date, you want to aim for all of your posts to eventually have a good evergreen score, this is a really important blogging strategy as it is the key to steady traffic growth. BuzzSumo puts an evergreen ranking beside the posts. The higher the score, means the content is still being actively shared for longer after it was written, this is a good thing. These are the perfect kinds of posts to write if you’re looking for a viral blog post idea that you can drive traffic to again and again.
Images & keywords
Using the right language and right images to be seen – See what keywords being used, these can give you a hint on some keywords that may be effective for you to use in your own posts. Make sure you’re adding attractive pinnable images too, who doesn’t like to pin? keep Pinteest in mind whenever you’re creating a blog graphic because Pinterest is a heavy traffic puller!
Where are the shares?
Be mindful of which platforms are performing well for those articles, it might be that a recipe post similar to what you’re going to write is blowing up & being shared tons on Facebook, so you’ll want to aim at maximizing Facebook shares by targeting more Facebook groups with your post once complete.
BuzzSumo shows you exactly how many shares the articles have had on each platform & helps give you a better insight of WHERE you want to target the most with your next upcoming post! – Pretty cool as this saves valuable time promoting your post somewhere it’ll hardly be seen/clicked! So utilize the knowledge you’ve gained & implement your newly found tricks to best promote your future articles!
