Let Me Educate You On How To Be A Lazy Chef!

Lazy Chef Dough Recipes Easy Food Time Saving Family Meals

Not that many of us need encouragement in being lazy…. but the thought of making bread can be daunting, especially with the time & effort it takes to get it on the table & in your belly….. I mean, who’s got “time fo dat”?

So let me educate you on the easiest way to be a Bish Bash Bosh Chef even when it comes to bread making! This is such a simple, rustic, flavorsome recipe, you’re going to kick yourself that you hadn’t been brave enough to try bread making before now!

Before I moved to Algeria, making bread never crossed my mind, not once!
I lived in London, if I wanted good bread…. there was plenty of choice & Mr Kingsmill was always there when you fancied a nice slice of toast & cuppa tea! 🙂

All the unknown luxury of plentiful  bread went out of the window when I made Hijra to my husbands homeland of Algeria, the place we lived was far from any city and there was certainly no sliced bread, or any other of my favorites available in the shops! So I had to make do with baguette (which is nice of course) but doesn’t hit the spot like some breads do…. So I began searching for something to fill the void of not having the type of bread I liked.

A friend of mine shared a recipe with me for Turkish Pide Bread and explained that this was so easy to make and required NO kneading…. that’s right, NONE! …. My kinda recipe!
So never having baked before, I gave it a try & I’m proud of the outcome, It was pretty awesome & the aroma was amazing!

So here is my easy take on Turkish bread –

Ingredients –
Makes 2 loaves.

  • 2cups of all purpose flour (double if wanting more)
  • 1tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tablespoon of sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 3/4cup of warm/hot water
  • 1/2 sachet dried yeast (2.5 g) (1tsp)
  • Handful of black seeds/Nigella Satvia (You can use anything you like on top, like Zaatar)

Method –

In a bowl, to one side, add sifted flour, salt, yeast, sugar.
Then add the yogurt and oil to the other side.
Pour the warm water gradually until a soft, sticky dough is formed.
Do NOT knead! Gather the dough that’s all.

Oil your hands and make the dough into a light ball, oil the bowl so the dough does not dry out, cover with a clean cloth and let rise in a warm place away from the air stream for about 3 hours… I usually warm up the microwave and let it sit in there to rise quicker.
Once risen, oil your hands again and begin to shape your loaves keep twisting it under and moving it around with your hands, like you’re moving the steering wheel of a car.
Oil a baking dish, add the dough & push it out towards the edges then with your index finger, make holes in the dough & brush with more olive oil if you like…. sprinkle with seeds and bake until golden brown…. 30-40 minutes depending on your oven.

You may want to add more oil half way through if you like, I love olive oil, so the more the better! This really is a delicious bread, the yogurt gives it an amazing texture & the kids demolished it! So it really is a winner all round! Enjoy! 🙂
